How to Crochet a Snood

It’s been a while since I last posted a tutorial on here! I’ve been busy in crochet-land and prepping my life for baby no. 3! Yikes!

But here is my new post; a crochet pattern for a kids’ snood that can be adapted for adults too. It’s a good one if you are new to crochet, as it’s made from just 4 anemone granny sqaures. Yarn-wise I used mainly whatever I had in my yarn stash, but I did use one of my new Paintbox yarns as the statement colour! (colour 111 if you want to use the same!)

You will need:

  • DK yarn in 5 colours, 1 for colour A, 2 for colour B, 1 for  colour C, 1 for colour D
  • Crochet hooks for the size of yarn using, I used 3.5 mm and 4mm
  • Darning needle & small scissors

To make one anemone granny square:

Round 1. With colour A, ch 4 and join with a slip stitch (sl s) to form a circle.

ch 3 (counts as 1 treble crochet (tr)) 3 tr into ring, ch 1, *4tr, ch 1* 3 times. Join to top of 3-chain with a sl s.

Round 3. continuing with yarn B, ch 1, 1 dc into same sp, 1 dc into every tr and 1 ch space of previous round, sl s into 1st dc to join.

Round 4. Change to yarn C, join into any corner dc. Ch 3 (counts as 1 tr) 3 tr, ch 1, 4 tr into same dc, (corner made) ch 1, *skip 4 dc (2 tr, 1 ch, 2 tr) into next dc, ch 1, miss 4 dc (4tr, ch 1 4 tr) into next dc ch 1* 3 times. Join with a sl s into top of 3 ch.

Round 6. Continuing with yarn D, ch 3 (counts as 1 tr) and work 1 tr into each tr of previous round, and (2tr, ch 1, 2 tr) into each 1 ch corner group. Join with a sl s to top of beginning 3 chain.

I made 4 of these, changing the colour of yarn B for 2 of them, so I had alternating colours. I joined the squares together width-ways with a dc seam, and finished the top and bottom edges of the snood with a dc decorative seam, using the two colours I used for yarn B, one for the top edge and one for the bottom edge. Then tidied up with a bit of sewing in loose ends!
